AI Sires and Semen Stocks |
Even though AI Sires are not usually present on the farm, their details must be entered via the Animal Details window. Stocks of semen are entered and viewed via a separate window called the Active AI Sires and Semen Stocks window, which is accessed from the Data Entry menu. This tutorial will describe how to enter the details of a new AI Sire and a quantity of purchased straws.
Proceed as follows:
. Input the sire details, making sure that the Status
of the sire is "Dead". The dead status is required to tell the program
that the animal is not present on farm. If you need further help with this, please
refer to the tutorial Entering Animal Details. Save the changes and close the window.
On a new blank line in the grid, enter the date, the quantity of straws purchased and the total cost.
If you are currently using the sire, place a tick in the box that says Active
at the top of the window. This identifies the sire as active within the program and
will allow you to select an option for only showing those sires that are currently in
use. The latter option is selected by clicking on the Short-Cut button 
on the toolbar and
then clicking on "View Active Sires only". When you now view the drop-down
list of sires inthe Bullings & Service Data Entry window, only these
active sires will be displayed. You can switch this off by clicking the short-cut
menu item again. The Active tick box for AI Sires is also available within
the Animal Details window
When a service is recorded via the Data Enry | Cows | Bullings and Sevice menu option, the number of staws the number of straws used should be entered. The stock levels are recalculated and displayed within the Active AI Sires & Semen Stocks window (above).
